It always surprises me a little when people that go into an area where they might be attacked by a grizzly will carry a firearm, but those same people won’t carry a beacon locator, (like a Spot).
People that respond to a bear attack with a firearm are more apt to be injured than those using bear spray, in which case that beacon locator will get help to you a heck of a lot quicker.
Rescuers had a difficult time finding the victim that died of a mauling in YNP this spring. His chances of survival certainly wouldn’t have been lessened if the re#cuers could have gone to him immediately.

I was in Yellowstone two months ago on October 15. Saw a Grizzly in the field about 100 meters from us. Close enough, but far enough.

Looks like he drown it to death with his weight. Nice tactic!

I, thankfully, have a partner that comes with me whenever I'm out where I may encounter bears, so my blind spots are covered by backup. This is always a good warning to put out there, though; while this audience tends toward a little more aware, there are a shocking number of people that don't realize just how fast these things can move and how quickly they can change from "don't care" to "GTFO" regarding peoples' presence. I witnessed no fewer than 3 bobbleheads leap from their cars and take off into the underbrush after a good sized black bear just outside of Jasper, with their cellphones only, one winter. >_<
