Theresa & I just visited southern NV.

We arrived early Sunday AM and drove from the airport directly to Red Rock Canyon. Just was we entered the loop road, she abruptly says "Stop the Car!". With her camera at her eye / lens out the window, she says "Phainopepla!". Naturally I say "What?". She shows me this on the back of here camera.

Not a bad way to start the visit. :-)

QUOTED IMAGE

Stunning shot of this male phainopepla, Theresa! I too got lucky yesterday, and got shots of a male and female phainopepla. I see them so seldom here. I was definitely excited about that.

Extraordinary shot, Neal! Very sharp, and that blue eye always gets to me.

Ha, ha, cool Neal...it looks like a bunch of flamingo decoys held up by stakes in the water. :p

We have a beach not far from home on Auckland's west coast at Muriwai with an awesome gannet colony. Always a great place to go and shoot. My friend and I went out this week for a sunset shoot that failed, but I managed to get some shots of the gannets. Pretty poor light so quite high iso. Watching the mother regurgitate fish for the young gannet and how far it got its beak down its mothers neck was amazing.

Hi Paul...Both of these photographs are really special, but the second one is particularly good for the unique peek at the owl and the owl's unique peek back at you.

Tom
