I don't know how High Speed Display works exactly, but it does make tracking action easier as the EVF is more responsive, smoother. It's also the default mode when using the electronic shutter. Which is one of the reasons I switched from the mechanical shutter to the electronic shutter. For non-action shots it doesn't matter. But it does for action shots. For me it does anyway.
When I first got my R6 and tried to shoot BIF, I used the mechanical shutter. And I kept losing the birds. It was just hard to track them (and I've been shooting BIFs for over 10 years!). There was a kind of stutter in the EVF. And I just lost them. Then I switched to the electronic shutter and my problems were over. It was way easier to track birds. Even fast birds.
I never set the High Speed Display when using the mechanical shutter because it's only available at certain settings, settings I wasn't using.
Hi, Levina. I must admit that the complexity of the R6/R5 AF kind of makes me miss my 1DX2. It just did whatever I asked of it, and it did it well. That said, the potential of the R6/R5 is amazing. We're nearing the end of the bad weather here in the Pacific Northwest, and I'm looking forward to getting out and really putting some of these AF settings to the test!
