North or South island?

Just checking in for the first time this week.

Given that we think New Zealand, the topography reminded me of Christchurch. After twenty minutes or so clicking along the coast line at possible locations, one of the photo links in Google Maps on "Taylor's Mistake Beach" returned a wide angle view with lots of sandy foreground but some features that look like your challenge, Ed.

It is not the same view as yours, but based on what I see I'll take a chance and submit "A rocky outcrop on the edge of Scarborough".

I enjoyed a five week holiday across North and South islands in 2015 that will be hard to beat.
Local SIM card within an hour of leaving Auckland airport. SMS to one business colleague with "only you have my number".
No calls. No email. Happy wife. Happy kids. Happy CV. Bliss.

Edited to add that my avatar is from that holiday per the GPS coordinates in my signature.

Regardless if I am right, wrong, close or no cigar, this was the weather when we were there!
