Question for everyone who's using adapters....

Is the Canon one really worth the extra 100 bucks or do the Vitrolux/Amazon specials for 35/40 bucks work just as well?

I use a Viltrox adapter and haven't had any problems with either Canon or Sigma lenses. However, I mostly use manual focus. I haven't had any problems with autofocus when I have used it.

Have read there is no difference except when it came to the accessory foot that some may not have. I have the Canon one.

I’ve used several Amazon adapters, never a problem. Just an empty tube and straight through electrical contacts.

I have JJC and Viltrox ones. Solid construction on both and would recommend.

I too have acquired the Sigma 16mm in Feb ... at this point in time a bit disappointed as it seems to not focus on point wide open especially from min. distance through to around 5m or so... not sure if it is this copy with the M50II... the other Sigma 56mm, 18-35 & 50-100 are all sharp wide open across min. to infinity.

That image is clear and sharp close up...

Thoughts??

We've had a lot of rain here in Sydney so shooting outdoors hasn't been possible. Because of this, here's my first image with the Sigma 16mm

I think it likely your copy as I found mine to focus really well and had no issues. If possible may be worth taking it back to C.R Kennedy and see if they are able to replicate it. Did you get it off their eBay store?

Yes, they said to bring it in with some examples…. They are just down the road so need to make time to do it.

Good to know they do work well on the M50Ii

Thanks

Lucky you live close to them and hopefully you can get a replacement or refund, but I think the former would be more likely.

Hopefully the replacement treats you better and you’re welcome!

I have the Viltrox adapter and it's not a good fit. Holding onto the lens for support, it will cause movement and the camera will give an Error 60 code. You have to turn it off, remove and replace the battery, then turn the camera back on to clear the error. It happened so much that I got rid of the EF-S lenses and adapter, and bought all EF-M lenses. I refuse to use anything other than native EF-M mount lenses.

Just getting started in photography (3/2021).
Canon M50 with EF-M lenses:
15-45mm f/3.5-6.3, 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3, 32mm f/1.4

I have no experience with Viltrox, but use the canon adapter with the EF-S 55-250 on my M6II. Works like a charm and have never had any issues.

No problems with my Viltrox. Like anything else, probably some variations from sample to sample. I would have returned it immediately and tried a second one before writing it off.

I took this image while on a hike in NZ central plateau at the Tongiriro National Park. While I was happy with the hand-held, available-light shot of the fungus, I just now realized that I caught a tiny yellow lizard or gekko climbing onto the top of the fungus. It blended perfectly with the colour of the fungus and its shape was morphed by the moisture around it and on the top of the fungus! The actual size of the fungus was only about 50mm, so the animal must have been really tiny! I think the tiny orange/black object to its lower right is possibly an egg.

I have a Canon adapter and it has worked with every native EF, EF-S and Sigma lens I have attached to it.

When in doubt about the lens adapter, the Canon will function properly.

Kind of like aftermarket car parts. They are supposed to work as intended yet in enough situations their longevity and quality can be suspect. That's not to say the branded OEM is 100%, the likelihood tends to yield better results with less worries. Last month I replaced the brake wheel cylinders on one car and went aftermarket. They were 1/3 the price of the dealer item and I expect that in 5 years if they last that long I'll be in there again.
