In the field I'm mostly challenged when it comes to IDing warblers. The Worm-eating Warbler is a rare exception. If you can see the four bold black lines on its head (example in 2nd pic) it's a great giveaway...plus they are not sexable or ageable which takes the usual confounding factors out of the equation.

Great shot, Ken. I really think black-bellied plovers are beautifully colored birds.

Thanks Mike. It's too bad they aren't in breeding plumage for very long in the lower 48.

Pretty shot Rich. That's a Horned Grebe. I think they're called Slavonian Grebes in Europe.

Beautiful birds. Never realised plovers come in so many forms.
Very nicely composed and presented photos Piet & Ken

Thanks Richard. That family does have an amazing variety of species. The Black-bellied nest in the far northern hemisphere but spend the off-season along coastlines all over the world. I think you even get a few in Tasmania.

Returning to the box with nesting material and, after some housekeeping, getting set to gather more. Prothonotary Warbler.

Steve these are so captivating with their intense colour.
Certainly a sight to feast ones eyes on.
Very beautiful birds.

Thanks very much, Richard! You're so right. When nonbirders wonder what we're staring at and we point out the bird it always elicits a big OMG!

I'd never imagined them here. Just discovered they do migrate to Australia, and us. Called Grey Plover, and only the females
"This species is also known as the Black-bellied Plover or the Grey Sandpiper."
