Bummer. I had that happen with the 600/11. I bought that lens in December 2020 and the R6 started to lock up to the point that I couldn’t shoot with it anymore. I returned the lens. Funny thing is that when I tried the EF 300/4L with the EF 1.4xTC, the camera locked up too. So I thought that apparently my R6 didn’t like that focal length. I never shot with that combination again and never had any lock ups since. Not sure what was going on. What I do know is that when I now try the 300/4L with the 1.4xTC, the camera doesn’t lock up so I gather that was a freak coincidence. But no idea why it started happening with the 600/11.

All I can do is “hope” it was a freak occurrence although my life experience is that if something happens once it’s likely to happen again. I prefer it never happens again.

A pelican and an avocet. Regarding lockups, I've had 2 in the time I have owned the R6. Both were with the EF 100-400 V2 + an extender attached. Last time it happened was back in mid-October at an airshow.

As far as I know Canon never addressed the issue, never explained why it happens sometimes (or how to prevent it). So it may happen again.

People have been experiencing lock ups with these cameras, the R5 most of all, some occasionally, others more often. I had severe lock ups, one after another so I literally couldn’t shoot anymore. That was a year and a half ago and I haven’t had them since.

Or if you’re really worried, you could contact Canon.

Did some shooting both stills and video yesterday and no problems. Since getting the camera in February I have shot almost exclusively with the 100-400 II and once with the EF 85 1.8 with not one single issue.

I'll see how it goes the next couple of weeks. I'm praying it was some sort of fluke. Maybe I did something I didn't realize I did (aka: Operator Error). :p

Fingers crossed.
But don’t panic if it does happen again. Maybe it’s just the camera getting acquainted with the lens! :-P

Wow - that's impressive. I take it you did some kind of arcing and panning manoeuvre with the camera to get that one?

Well, it was just panning and relying on the R6's tracking skills :-)

Here's another testimony to the low light abilities of the R6.

I went out this morning, just before dawn as I wanted to shoot in blue hour. So at the location I waited for the light when a heron unexpectedly flew by. We were close to sunrise now although the sun wasn't up yet and the heron was very close. I had the 300/4L mounted as I needed all the light I could get at dawn and in a reflex fired off some shots. Well, it's crazy. Most of those shots are in focus. Although he is missing body parts on most of them on account of him being so close. There was one image though where everything fits in the frame, but just. I shot this at ISO3200 with a shutter speed of 1/320s and with the lens open at f/4. It's not cropped. I did not use noise reduction. I did not sharpen anything. I did add a tiny bit of light to the image.

This camera just continues to amaze me.

And this one. Also shot at dawn, a bit before the heron @ISO 4000. It is uncropped. I applied a tiny bit of noise reduction on the background (with Noiseware). No sharpening.
