Guys, Zeeland?! That's where my family is from! I was born and raised in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen until the family moved up north. I was thirteen then.

Levina, these photos were take in summer, on our holiday in Zeeland and are regulars there. We bought the special peanutbutter for birds at a gardencentre, and they loved it. I did put my camera on a tripod and used remote control, because they were a bit skittish.

I always buy peanut butter in Winter, hang it up somewhere in a nearby park (I don't have a yard or a balcony). Birds do love it.

I'll have a look at my harddisk for more pics.

Cool.

When a first saw this bird I thought it was a Roodborsttapuit(Stonechat?) because I'd seen that in that area before but this was one I did not see before, although it turns out to be in the same family.

The barbed wire I did not notice before although we've walked past dozens of times, I'll check next time we're there. It's between a footpath and a meadow in one of the new nature reserves in our province(@Lyn2011: it's in Zeeland, those birds I've got(Jay seldom, Woodpecker almost daily) in the garden). Local farmers are allowed to use it as summer pasture(not yet, now there are lots of geese and other birds breeding) for, usually, young dairy cows(14-22 months old). Maybe the barbs are not that close in real life, the photo is from a very small angle along the path so compression plays a role.

Nice to see birds come first for a change. One of the things I find heartbreaking is farmers mowing early before the birds have fledged and desperate parents flying around frantically, crying out as their chicks are being killed. No wonder the number of waders is in steep decline. It's very noticeable and it's sad.

And we do have a lot of Geese here, Rotgans(Brent Goose) against the Oosterschelde stormvloedkering and Graylag goose.

Love the first especially, pcs. I love flocks and this is a good one!

I take it they are all migrating birds? I know the Brouwersdam is a good location to spot them, but the Stormvloedkering must be pretty much the same.

And here is our Tureluur(Redshank) on standard barbed wire(for Richard).

Redshanks are hard to get close to. You look at them and they're gone. Those are good shots. The first shot is so typical of the species, isn't it? That's a really nice shot, dark and moody.

Ha, you're van 'd'n overkant'. I'm lucky to have a few nature reserves within 15 min. of our home(Zuid-Beveland). Besides this one("Zwaakse weel") there's another new development where on one side there's the Westerschelde and on the other side of the dyke there are "inlagen" low wetlands where there used to be breeches in the dykes. Part is just for the birds etc. and part is grazed by Scottisch Highland cattle or Blonde d'Aquitaine.

Thank you!
The Brend Geese are migrating with a pitstop on the Oosterschelde, between Wissenkerke en Colijnsplaat there is an old harbor and also newly developed nature reserves.
The Graylag Geese are breeding here as well as Canadian geese and I think also Barnacle geese.

Haha, no, you are from ‘d’n overkant’!
I love our Frisian cows but those grazers you mention are really handsome. I saw them in Diemen and in Waterland. I think I have some pics of them. I’ll look for them later when I’m back at my Mac.

All the old familiar place names take me right back to my childhood.

We have a lot of geese here too, in Waterland. I always love to see those huge flocks take flight or land during migration. Quite a sight. And the noise!

Sweet pic, Lyn.
Robins are still my favourite little birds. They’re so comfortable around people, not skittish at all.

For years I have been photographing a pair of Great crested grebes that reside in a canal close to where I live. I visited them last week and saw something I have never seen before. One of them swallowed a lobster. At least I think it is. These birds usually eat small-ish fish and this thing was huge! I didn't think he would be able to do it, but he did. Although it took some doing.

Just two shots.

Catching it. After which he turned his back to me. Obviously...

And ready to devour it. This thing was so big and those tentacles, or whatever they are called, even after swallowing it they were still dangling in his face. Amazing.

Nothing cuter than birds taking a bath. And they always seem to really enjoy it.

Love the Kluut! I’ve seen them in Waterland in IJdoorn but they were too far away for any good shots.

That's a problem here to, more mm would be nice, new 800 or 1200 5.6? (one can only dream...)

Here's the Kievit(Lapwing), sadly very dull background for the flock but it's something I don't see very often.
