Least Terns. First I've seen this year. Our smallest tern, we have protected nesting areas here, so glad to see them appear today.

Great flight shot of the least tern, EB! With the black color around the eyes, it's often difficult to get them to show up. This shot shows the eye very nicely.

Thanks much LD, appreciate your comments. I was very pleased to see these guys return, looking forward to a good nesting season for them.

Thank you both for the comments. Two shots I'm happy with, but unfortunately it was a 20 shot sequencevmad. They were all in focus, but motion blur and framing were problems.

The Jaeger had been sitting and I forgot to bump the shutter speed when it took off. I rememberer a few seconds later, but spun the dial a bit harder than necessary. But the R5 handles high ISO better than I handle low shutter speed, so it was a safer error.

Those are great, Ken! What a magnificent looking bird. And @800mm no less. That makes the shots even more impressive for me as I can't do BIF with the 800/11 because of the narrow FOV. Two thumbs up!

Thanks Levina. It was 1120mm actually, and I did miss a lot of shots due to bad framing. Most of the time the bird was resting 80-200 yards away, but came within 50 yards when it was chasing the gull. I can see why people with for more lenses with built-in teleconverters.

It is a magnificent bird. They nest on the Arctic tundra and generally spend the rest of the time at sea. Seeing one this far inland was a very rare treat.
