Not a great image, I know. I post it not because of the absolute quality of the image, but because of how impressed I am with the relative quality obtained by the camera/lens considering that the subject is 1/4-1/2 mile away. With the naked eye I could barely make out wings. Even at 300mm, there was just a hint of a white head through the lens, so I decided to take some shots and see what I got. I wasn't positive it was a bald eagle before doing some serious cropping.

My 90D spends the bulk of its time mounted to a 400mm 5.6 to yield 640mm of effective focal length.

But I also use it as the body on my 'Beer Garden' kit. I carry that body with EFS 18-135mm and 10-22mm lenses in a small shoulder bag whenever there's potential for proximity to crowds.

Here are a few I shot this morning on a walk through the South Lake Union neighborhood in Seattle (AKA Amazonia.)

And how is matching 90d with 400/5.6 L?
I've read mixed opinions....

PS: I'm carrying a 15-85 only, as everyday lens...

Great picture! Astrophotography is something I want to try very much. Since it says it was with a 150-600 lens, but at 1200mm, I assume you also were using a teleconverter?

90D + 400 5.6 gets no mixed reviews from me. Sharp as a tack. Very light for 640mm of reach. Very affordable. No complaints. No plans to switch to anything else.

I loved that sensor. I got spoiled by the R5 AI AF, so I haven't used my 90D much lately, but there are times when I'm using the R5 in crop mode where I wish I could put the 90D sensor inside the R5.

I think of what you might call "reach" more in terms of focal length divided by pixel-spacing, rather than focal length times crop factor. The EOS D30 has a crop factor of 1.6x, too, but I doubt anyone would choose it over any FF camera in a focal-length-limited situation (unless they wanted tiny files).

Very true. When you crop a full frame image down to an APS-C size, you throw away pixels. The 90D has 32.5 native megapixels before any cropping. The math is evading me right now but an image from my 5Div would end up being about 12-15mp after cropping to a 640mm angle of view with a 400mm lens.

Thank you and yes I use the Sigma 2.0 teleconverter.

Here is the picture I posted just yesterday.

I took that picture and cropped out a section.

Your posts got me interested in this lens and I looked at other postings with it - quite nice. Been some time since I owned a Sigma lens and the picture quality and reasonable price on this one has me interested.

I'm intrigued. How do you focus? Your shots are clearer than anything I've managed to get so far.
My brother has taken wonderful shots with the Tamron 150-600 that I gave him mounted on his T4i with manual focus. He sent me a shot of Saturn and the rings are visible. Blows my mind.

A couple recent examples with the 90D from other threads. With the Sigma 150-600 C (slight crop), and the older Canon 300 f/4L IS (cropped by about 30-40%)

A couple weeks ago, there was something dead just past our property. For a few days, I saw several eagles & vultures hanging out in this dead tree on our property. I saw at least 2 full adult bald eagles, 2 that had mostly white heads & 2 that didn't have any white yet.
