Wingspan is about 5 -5 1/2 feet. The birds themselves are about 34 inches tall so they are big birds.

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

Here is when they get up high enough and sort of stall in the air, then flip into the dive mode. they were so close and I had a blast watching them although my success rate of chasing them through the sky was pretty poor.

These are nice shots. Nice to see them in the air. I see many shots where they are sitting on the ground.

The ones I saw in Mexico(!) didn't seem so big- but maybe I'm comparing them to a pelican which is big.

Maybe I see a bird similar to a blue footed booby?

That is definitely a blue footed Booby.

Nicely done, Maureen; I loved getting snap some of these while we were in Florida just before things shut down.

In response to some of Maureen's great photos a while back, I commented on having Elephant Seals as a priority subject and recently heard of a local opportunity to find some. This pup's a few months old but still hanging out and learning the ropes after Mom migrated off. So, "check"...:D

Because of their proximity to people (this is in a local State Park), there are volunteers out managing exposure and you can see one of the cones used to mark off the area here. 1120mm allowed me to shoot between signs and cones for the most part, but some markers were just impossible to avoid, sadly.

There is only one thing more fun than watching a Booby dancing and that is to watch them dive for fish. They fly up, flip over and head down into the water at lightening speed. Even getting one only halfway in focus was a bonus for me. Even better is if you are snorkeling and a Booby explodes into the water next to you and spears a fish. They were definitely my favorite creature in the Galapagos.

I am a lucky photographer. LAST night at dusk was lucky enough to see this big guy about 4 miles from the house. And, I am the kinda guy that likes any picture of a wild bear.
