In the rainforest walk through habitat, these timid creatures did not seem intimidated by human visitors inside.

Tuesday was the 50th Anniversary of opening the San Diego Safari Park. Even the gorillas got the news

That's some fantastic clarity, Cog2020. Well done.

The Cheetah enclosure is one of the larger ones at my Zoo as it needs the space to run and chase each other. On a hot day, they are too sedate but by late afternoon, they start to get antsy and move a bit more. So that is when I take advantage. Not often successfully though.

Well, it's almost winter here, but the weather continues to be generally pretty good, with quite a few sunny days. Having laboured long on jobs around the house I took the opportunity to sneak off to the zoo on an almost cloudless day, albeit a bit cooler in the morning - but it still got to 20DegC by midday! The zoo was full of school parties, and I judiciously made my way between them to give both my subjects and me a bit of peace and quiet, and hopefully we could both concentrate on getting me some decent shots.

My favourites, the orangutans, had sought political asylum in the quiet of their shelter and my other go-to, a new tiger was vaporware, so I settled for birds (as one does in NZ).

I was using two Fuji X-T4 bodies: one with the Tamron 18-300 and the other with my Canon-mount Sigma 150-600, connected via the Fringer ProII adapter.

My first encounter was an Australian Cockatoo, being carried around the zoo on a hand-held perch by a keeper.
