Anyone here got or previously owned the Leica Q2?

(Not jumping ship or anything)

yup, ask me anything and I'll give you my opinion. rumor has it that a Q3 is in the works and with a tilt screen, which is something I would wait for. Also it seems that leica systems are now using sony sensors.

as for leica in general, it's way over priced and you can get a better camera with several other brands. you buy leica for the luxury feel of having an expensive tool. whether it feels good or not to you is up to you. leica glass is superb and incredible, but so are the new sony.

Been looking at the Q2 and the Q2 monochrome. The price is down to a point where it’s still bonkers but not release price bonkers, especially the second hand market. I saw the rumours for the q3 but that will be far too expensive upon release. Kind of getting pulled more towards the monochrome side but the images I’m seeing out the the standard q2 are very nice too. My question was going to be about the AF. I know I won’t be getting eye AF and it won’t be like my a9ii but wondering what the comparison model would be in terms of AF on Sony. Are we talking a7r3 level or worse? (I like my a7r3 AF, just mean that sort of level I.e a big jump from a7rii tech).

Edit - don’t know if I should just stop being daft and buy a Fuji x100V instead. I’ve owned the T and F before and liked them. That 28mm summilux though!…

Edit 2 - The high iso performance on the monochrome is amazing too. Can shoot up to iso 100,000. Seen shots at iso 50,000 that looked like iso 400!

I have shot more keepers in the last three weeks with the A1 and 200-600 combo then probably all of last year with the A9 and 200-600. Now the A9 still works great, but the extra cropability is just way too handy. The only thing that would make it better would be the 600 f4, but then I would need a job to pay for it and wouldn't be able to spend every day at the fish ladder

Anybody been playing Elden Ring here? I've been absolutely addicted to that game for the last couple of months. Incredible gaming experience imo.
_______________

It has been way too dry in my region for several weeks, but this week the rains have returned. We have a nice Mimosa tree behind the house and it looks so sweet drenched in the rain showers.

Mimosa trees are regarded as invasive bad trees here in the Southeastern USA, so eventually we probably need to remove it. But, this tree just looks so lovely that we've not yet had the heart to get rid of it. Hopefully we can decide on a replacement tree and plant it close by and then after the new tree has grown a few years we can take the Mimosa down.

I took this with the 35GM because I continue to wrestle over which 35mm lens to keep (35 GM or Sigma 35 1.2). I've always preferred the Sigma's rendering, but the 35 GM has an unbeatable punch (at the expense of smoother bokeh) and it is so much smaller/lighter. So, I may flip-flop and keep the GM and sell the Sigma.

Hello brothers,

who bought the Tammy 35-150mm F2-F2.8? What's your thoughts about it? look likes a good one for my occasional events gig since i don't like shooting group photos wider than 35mm. Is it sharp edge to edge? is the AF quick?

TIA

Was up at 3:45 and took a few. May try in the morning again before tomorrow morning's departure. Middle of the night would likely be the best viewing but I'm not a middle of the night person.

Sorry to disappoint, I rate the Q2 to be equivalent to the a7r2 with zony 55 1.8 :P

the 28mm on the Q2 is more like a 26mm. the jpg will come up as 28 because of the jpg processing and crop to help with distortion.

the monochrome does indeed look very good. if b/w is all you want, it'll be a good pick up. i also like the color scheme of the monochrome bodies. black body with white and grey. and lack of brand. this comes to mind for me lol. the very end of the video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldFyO5QBd4k&t=1s (external link)

there is a member name Kirk in the leica thread that owns the q2 monochrome, i'm sure if you ask him some questions he would be happy to answer.
https://photography-on-the.net …ad.php?t=1045205&page=263

this is a good video to watch if you have not.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfE7nYvDg3U&t=1s (external link)

despite me speaking poorly of leica, I do like the cameras and enjoy using them as my personal choice. what I like is the simplistic system and minimalist, and how the image looks. you can say it is a very expensive point and shoot camera because thats how most users would set it to act. I love doing long exposures on leica. I can go as long as 120s exposure without having to use a remote.

I use the q2 as my 2nd for when I need to go wide. it's not a camera that i would use as a main or a edc. but I seen lots of people who only uses it as their main. here's one i Like.
