Before I got the R6 I had no immediate plans to upgrade to mirrorless from my 80D, but a number of things happened that made me make the decision.

Loosing a great opportunity due to the sound of a shutter and not being able to look through the viewfinder when videoing. I can honestly say, since getting this camera, I have managed to take images I could never have hoped before. The eye tracking alone is amazing and makes it worthwile, not just for following a subject but it means you can frame the subject with ease. The silent shutter lets you get close to subjects like mammals without them being disturbed or even know you're there. The image of the Hare shows both of these advantages.

Other advantages include being able to see and change everything via the view finder, the button customisation, the camera works flawlessly with EF lenses using the adaptor and, one of the most unexpected advantages is outstanding low noise the R6 has. The second image below was taken at 25600 with some noise reduction.

As mentioned, the eye tracking is amazing, it just seems to lock onto the subject, effortlessly and in a way no camera I've had below even comes close to.

It's not a perfect camera and I'm sure for some, the 20 Megapixels will seem not enough, but the few disadvantages are hugely out weighed by the advantages.

Yeah wondering too. Do you miss having more MP? I'm so close to switching but 20MP is alot less than what I currently have.

I find I don’t miss it at all. This may be because I typically don’t do significant cropping.

You know what is interesting I found a Youtuber who did side by side shots with the R5 and R6 and posted the raws from landscape, portrait and studio work.
I downloaded the files and then I would output the R6 files in Adobe Camera Raw to 45 MP as output. Then I would layer the images. 9 times out of 10 I couldn't tell which was which.

I then sent the PSD files to a friend who is also a long term photographer and graphic designer and didn't label the layers. He picked the R6 files over the R5 files 50% of the time and said he thought they were the same camera.

Additionally, I then tried the Enhance feature of Adobe Camera Raw, then output the R6 files to 45 MP. 9 out of 10 times we both preferred the R6 files over the original R5 files at 45 MP as they looked sharper and more detailed. Weird.

We both were viewing the images at 100% zoom on 5k monitors as well. My conclusion was that there was no scenario where I couldn't print an R6 file where I could print an R5 file. I've actually had billboard size prints made out of 8 MP 1D2N photos that looked great.

I kind of think we've reached a point of diminishing returns on the full frame sensor.. it's like dividing a piece of pie into smaller pieces but not making the pie any bigger. That's why on phone cameras, some of the new androids with really high MP counts don't necessarily look any better than a 12 MP iPhone 13 shot (and can often look worse).

Most reviewers and such like to downsample images to compare, I thought it would be interesting to upsample as this seems more useful. Downsampling, even a 12 MP camera can compete with a 45 MP camera.

But marketing and FOMO really makes us as photographers want those higher numbers.

I just picked up the R6 but I'm concerned about the overheating and may return it for the mark ii. Has anyone here had problems with overheating?

Thanks

Try this group linked below if you’re not able to get an answer here. I have the R6 but don’t do videos so no overheating issues for me.
