I grew up around horses, cows, pigs, chickens, etc. Worked on a cattle farm from teens to 20's, working around 5,000-6,000 head of Brahma cow/calf pairs. I have rode horses and owned some horses off and on, most of my life, since I was 5 or 6 years old. I have even broke a few horses over the years (and some broke parts of me..LOL)
In all of my time spent around horses and livestock I have never seen a Horse Fly like the one I photographed today. You learn something new everyday. Nature is truly amazing!!

Lovely detail Ed, you're really squeezing everything out of that 90D/100mm combination.:-)

Cheers

Dennis

Thanks, Dennis. Fortunately for me, this ant was not running as fast as some do.

A pretty horsefly; who would have thought they existed. You’ve even managed to colour co-ordinate the plant with the fly. Lovely work.

I can say I've never seen anything like that before either. Looks like a fly wearing a fencing mask. Thanks for sharing!
