Thank you for the reply. These are two great shots to show the comparison between the two extenders. Like you I also don't see much of a difference when I view them at 100%, but then my eyes are not as young as they used to be (doh!). I think what it is going to boil down to for me is price. I find both to be quite expensive, especially compared to the older EF models I used to have (which I sold, to put toward what I have now). I appreciate the time you took to respond.. Take care.

Thanks Dave. Got both of these on an unsuccessful chase for a reported Indigo Bunting (uncommon vagrant in Nevada). Fortunately this is a fantastic walk around lens.

Since getting this lens some eight months ago, I haven't used my 500mm prime. It's a genuine walk around lens and have managed to take photographs I couldn't have previously because of the lack of mobility.
