My photos (above) have copied badly from my Flickr account (www.flickr.com/photos/​BeckyH1 (external link)). They are far brighter in reality. Any suggestions anyone?

If understand your question correctly I can't see any difference in the exposure (brightness) of the photos between the flickr copies and what is posted here.

That's likely it. A bit of an optical illusion due to the background. On flickr on the main page it is white but if you click on the individual photo it is black so the contrast is pretty stark when compared to the bright background here.
