Thanks! No magic really. There is a fish ladder in my town where alewives travel up every year to get to the lake to spawn. I (and many others) wait on the highway bridge over the creek the fish swim up to get to the ladder, and the Osprey will dive for fish right in front of us and fly over the bridge (or under depending on how close they were!) after they come out of the water. This guy came up empty handed and went around for another try. When they fly over the bridge they are only about 6 feet above us. I actually switched from my 200-600 at this location because it was too much lens! Bald eagles also fish here and don't get quite as close, but still close enough for great shots.

Even when I lived in California though, the Osprey were rarely bothered by human presence and flew pretty dang close.

In the photos you can see the view from the bridge of the pool where the osprey hunt. The other shot is of the bridge where everyone shoots from. The birds will fly under those power wires and out over the bay which is on the other side of the bridge behind everyone.

Excellent flight shot, Neal! Great sharpness and clarity.

What an amazing capture, Ed! Some pretty darn good photography, if I do say so.

Outstanding capture, Sid! It's always terrific timing when you can capture a bird of prey with it's catch. Very nicely done.

I used some of the new LR mask functions to jazz up the background on this one, too. Fun stuff to play with. Breaks up the monotony of the backgrounds.

Excellent capture! I'm going to hang around the beach more often hoping to get a shot like that.
