unclejohn Goldmember More info | An inspired shot! But I think it would be even stronger if you'd crop off the little bit of reality represented by the wall under the window sill. I don't know anything. But I know other things.

I agree with both of you. Leave enough of the wall below the blue strip to show what the situation was, otherwise the window scene floats away. But you don't need the whole recessed panel. unclejohn Goldmember More info | I stick to my guns. To me the circular design and the tigers and people facing each other are plenty enough to tie the picture together. But I recognize that we don't all "see" a photo in the same way. There may even be cultural differences. In a world-wide contest to write haiku based on photographs, American participants tended to write about (and presumably see as being important) the main objects in the photo, whereas the Japanese tended to write about the photo as a whole. I don't know anything. But I know other things.

I've read about a similar finding, not with haiku but more generally. Americans attend more to the central or prominent objects in a picture. People in other cultures give more consideration to other elements and the picture as a whole. Maybe this is why so many images in the Flowers thread center a single big bloom in the frame, with a neutral background that lacks detail.
