Love the wing position in this shot. Shows how adept they are at altering control surfaces when maneuvering.

Right. They are as maneuverable as swallows.

Lesser Nighthawk. Notice that their eyelids are camouflaged like the rest of their bodies!

Best shot I've ever seen of a Nighthawk, Mike! I'm surprised you're able to get shots like this during the daytime.

Wow, another killer shot, Mike! Do you every run across greater nighthawks?

Very alluring shot, Ed!

Thanks Mike. I've only seen Lesser Nighthawks in the local desert where I hike. The easiest way to tell them from Common Nighthawks is by their distinctive call. A month ago there were large groups of them flying together for up to 90 minutes after sunrise. This morning I didn't see a single one. The must have started migrating to Mexico already.

I really like this shot. Great colors, angle and detail on the bird, and the different levels of defocus of the background elements really add to the depth of the photo. Very nice.

Nice sharpness on all four of these mallards doing their courtship flight, Neal!

Thank you very much, Mike as always for your thoughtful and educative comments. I learn so much about the habits of birds on this forum and specially as you not just comment on most images but also add an explanation of what the bird/s are doing.

Great shot, Ed. Nice detail and colour.
What's your vantage point for these wingman type shots?

Anyone who can give me any advice how to tweak AF settings (R5) for these fast small swallows. This time I could not come close enough but maybe next time:lol:

Great shot. Love the pose and also the scattered reeds. I am envious, they have been sighted near me, but I have personally never seen one.

Many thanks EB.
We have been lucky this year.
They're regularly hunting in the local marshland, unfazed by our presence. Happy trails.
