Went out Friday to try my new R7 in a conservation area. Was happy with the results of this Indigo Bunting. Cropped down to about 1/4 of the frame. RF 100-500.

Anyone viewing Dave's image needs to choose the spectacles top right and then choose the "> zoom to 100%" option to see his great image detail.

Canon R7, Canon RF600 f/11
1/1600 f/11 ISO 1000

Getting used to my new R7 and my new RF600 f/11 by shooting any birds I see. I actually have never gotten a good shot of a mourning dove on the wing, This guy suddenly flew past and I snapped the R7 up. The full zone AF on my shutter button nailed him even though he was in the top right quadrant of the frame. I am more and more impressed with the R7 and its AF!!
I am getting better at getting birds in the frame with the RF600, the RF600 can give very good results!

I don't see shutter mode listed as an assignable function in the tables starting on page 874 of the UM.

If you need to access this quickly, I think your best option is Levina's suggestion in POST 19398832 to register it in My Menu. You can also set My Menu to come up first when you press the Menu button, regardless of where you were in the menus the last time.

Someone probably mentioned this already, but I discovered tonight that you can set the Raw Burst mode menu to be accessible through the Quick Controls (Menu -> Camera 8 -> Customize Quick Controls).

Yup - An R5 owner in a group expressed interest in an R7 and one fellow replied: "you have FF, why would anyone want to downgrade to crop?"

Some folks don't see beyond their own needs, and have no idea how starved for magnification and resolution some photo-ops are, so they think everything is easy: "just get a longer lens", "just get closer", etc., when in fact those may have already been exhausted, and the only thing left is pixel density. Also, there's "just use a TC", but the AF ability may have something to say about that, too, when light and contrast are limited.

I felt the other way when I went from using the 90D to the R5 for bird photography. I did it for the new operational features, and expected a slight downgrade in maximum IQ of small and/or distant subjects, and only expected better final subject IQ when it was possible to fill the R5's frame well and/or optics made shallower DOF possible.

LOL

The best description of just how deranged bird photographers are was done by POTN member magoosmc years ago. A newbie asked advice and this is what he said:

magoosmc wrote in post #14321727 (external link)
I asked the same questions a few months ago and got some great advice from the fine folks in this forum. With their help and by reading countless posts my shots are starting to improve, little by little. Now I am going to give the best advice that anyone here will give: RUN! Save yourself! Bird photography is like "digital crack". It will take over your life. In three months my savings have been converted into a new camera, two new lenses, tripod, monopod, two portable blinds, and a "hide" in the shed. Four feeders and two birdhouses. Bag each of sunflower seed, cracked corn and thistle seed, which need replaced weekly. Suet in every tree. Car is covered in bird poop. I am up before dawn in a swamp waiting for geese or hiding in the shed waiting to see who is coming to breakfast. You'll be doing high speed "police turns" in heavy traffic because you might have seen a hawk in a dead tree next to the road. You'll be late for everything because the light was right and the action was good. Now that you've been warned I look forward to seeing your future captures...

Still makes me laugh.

I am so glad that Gary at Hunts told me to buy their last R7 when I picked up the rental. I returned the rental early and registered my new R7!

What a great camera especially with the grip extension, can't call it a battery grip since it is just for the hold

What was the shutter count when you returned it?

Was this the best ever $100 you have spent on photography ?
