I’m honestly thinking about jumping into a 90D from my R6. I absolutely love photography and taking pictures of my kids but it’s hard to juggle them and my gear when we are all out. I’m worried about my camera bag as much as one of my kids ߤ. I do mostly real estate photography for MLS listings so the R6 is probably overkill for what I do.

You'll probably be disappointed with the 90D's OVF AF after getting used to the R6. What lens(es) do you typically carry when you're out with the kids?

Great lens, but big and heavy for sure. You might want to consider picking up a used RF 24-105 STM for cheap. I use one when I don't want to lug around my EF 24-70 2.8 II.

I did few RE with RP. Tripod and HDR. Our listing was sold within first day. :-)
Flippy screen was comfy.

But I do mostly family pictures and flipped the screen in. If RP wasn't so unrigged, probably wouldn't sell it, but 5D MKII. But MKII is much more robust for active style :) .

The RP is the Rebel of the FF mirrorless (smallest, cheapest, least featured, lowest build material), it was very much known about its polycarbonate body and sealing at the time of the launch, so there were no surprises upon purchase.

It isn’t the canon mirrorless by which every other mirrorless should be gauged.

Canon still makes EF lenses. And still makes 5D MKIV.
You have to worry after camera, lens is discontinued. But Canon supports gear for five or so years, after it is discontinued..

.
Still makes them? . Or still offers them for sale, even though manufacture has stopped? . I am not sure which is the case. . Do you know for sure that Canon is still actually making EF lenses and 5D Mark 4 bodies?

If I see "more on its way", "temporary out of stock" how BH calls it, to me it means they are waiting for fresh batch.

Meanwhile I took 500D on two trips (each two days) and it lasted on same battery even if I used build-in flash.
22-55 USM first trip and 16-35 2.8 II on second. It is nice to have good times back.

They have shifted focus on making new RF lenses, but that doesn't mean they discontinue the entire EF lenses. They still manufacture them, just not making new ones.

the 70-200L f2.8 III for example, is still on production.

A lot of the EF lenses have been discontinued, mostly lenses that have RF versions of but we are in a transitional phase. Some lenses like the 70-200mm F2.8 is a very popular lens, and it will take a bit to end production because I am sure Canon is going to be selling a bunch of them. There is a few lenses that they killed off because they weren't as popular and they have an RF version(70-200mm F4L IS for example). It is a matter of time, you wont see any announcements for new EF lenses and you will see them slowly being discontinued. I know I still purchase EF lenses because they work perfectly fine on the RF bodies and are a lot cheaper at the moment. I am sure in the next few years I will replace some of them(70-200mm, 24mm and others) with RF lenses once prices come down and new lenses are announced.

I “downgraded” from an R6 28-70 to a 1DX with a variety of lenses. It all comes down to what you do.

Yes the R6 is more advanced, IBIS, cleaner shadows, 2 more megapixels but in the real world, it doesn’t matter that much.

IBIS definitely was handy for video and low light photography but not a deal breaker and EVF is a love hate relationship.

I’ve always preferred a bigger body so 1DX felt like home. First thing I did was try to touch the screen lol, took a bit of getting use to but because of the button layout, I can shoot just as quick if not quicker.

Plus with Adobe’s new denoise ai, it’s insane how well it cleans up a 12,800 ISO shot. Not only cleans up noise, it brings back color.

If you primarily shoot photography, DSLRs didn’t magically become bad, mirrorless just took over and provides a lot of convenience, doesn’t mean the pictures they get are better than a DSLR.

The biggest upgrade to me isn’t from the bodies or AF, it’s lenses, that 28-70 had zero issues where as EF glass has chroma, fringing etc RF lenses have really improved over EF especially primes like 50 or 85 f1.2.

The main reason going back was that I felt super lazy with the R6. You hold the camera out and it does all the work for you. You don’t get that I worked for this photo feeling so I really started to lose the passion. Other reason is I want to upgrade to the 1dxiii by Christmas. That camera is the best of both. I can use it like a DSLR or use it like a mirrorless with live view. Has all the AF features from the R6/R5 too.

I think mirrorless is more beneficial for video especially with eye AF however for photographers, you still see a lot use DSLRs especially in sports as you have more control. Feels more raw.

Again all depends on what you shoot.

An EF lens with adapter is no more bulk on a mirrorless body than when the EF lens is used on the DSLR. In fact there is still less bulk with mirrorless.

Unless you're using an EF 300 2.8 mk 2, then I've have connection issues if I put too much weight on the connection. Causes a lockup. Now I support the lens prior to raising it and turn the camera off in between uses.

Lenses like the 300 aren't supposed to hang off the front of the camera; the camera just hangs off the back of them. Trying to support my 300 by the camera only would probably give me hand cramps!

EF-RF adapter makes compact EF lenses looking ugly on Rs. And R series rig is longer due to EF-RF adapter bulk.

All valid points!

Those who prefer to do most of the work - show their technical skill - can do so with a DSLR or the film cameras of yesteryear.

Modern Mirrorless does make photography easier. It's why I like them. But taking full control over every setting is still possible, it's not like the R-series is a point and shoot system. However, if the newer tech that can make taking images easier isn't required then why change?

It's a personal decision. I loved manual sports cars but when DSG/PDK etc came out, I found I preferred those. I'm inherently lazy and enjoy the fun after the skill part is dialled in...

No doubt when the R5mkII is announced, I'll have my order in the same day and, hopefully, it makes my taking images even easier to achieve.
