Really captures the MASSIVENESS of Rainier! It's a fairly difficult mountain to photograph when you're actually in the nat. park in terms of capturing the sheer scale

Yeah it really is tough to get the size. This location is pretty unique and the perspective is awesome. I've got shots from the park as well and they don't look nearly as impressive as this location.

Yeah you could try scouting out some passes on the east side... and I know there's a popular fire lookout hike on the S/SE side that allows for some compression but no roads....

Sunrise area was my personal fave, if you try that Burroughs hike, there's mt goats up there, and it's high enough in elevation/distance to have a balanced scale look

This one hits me personally. I think I've been there, in my childhood. I'm from the area (north of the border), so it's entirely possible. I wouldn't have had that perspective, of course. It's just a weird feeling of deja vu. I really like the photo.

I'm curious what the 3 stripes across the lane are?
One could certainly open the throttle there :-)

Markers for a known distance so cops can determine speed and give tickets for opening the throttle? ;-)a

That's a pretty short distance to get an accurate speed measurement.

Not 100% sure, but I think it is to let the driver know that a curve is approaching, as that road merges onto another if one turns around from the shot. (Just a guess) I believe if I remember correctly, they are raised as well.

There is usually another set of marks further down the road. They can also be used with air assets, to time them between markers.
