Yes, but bird wings and heads move very fast during bathing. They don't bathe in a tub with candles and a book like humans do on TV.

One of the reasons I liked the R7 was the reach from home, because I can't always leave the house. So then I shoot the birds from my home on the third floor (not counting ground floor). The R7 was fun because it brought the birds so much closer. The gulls too. Most see gulls as good subjects to practice on, and they are, but I also like them for themselves. They're such characters. And they become ferocious (Mine! Mine! Mine!) and rather funny when there's food and one of them gets a hold of it.

Here are a few on the roof of the houseboat across the canal where I live.

I am constantly reviled by my birding friends for shooting gulls. I love them, they're pretty, sleek, cheeky and yes, rapacious, what's not to like?

Very glad I'm not the only one who likes them, lol.

You need better birding friends. Many birders try to ignore them because identification can be very frustrating, but I enjoy the challenge. Most of the time anyway.

These were "4K" (3240x2160) crops (~7MP). Still a bit too warm to really take advantage of the pixel density of the R7, but getting there.

That does sting more, IMO, even though the outcome is the same.

BTW, I tried the Tamron 150-600 G1 with the first firmware update from late 2014, and it doesn't AF on the R7. On the R5, it auto-switches to "MF" and just flickers into AF for moments, but can't AF. With the R7 it isn't switching to MF, but AF still is erratic and never focuses.

I guess I need to contact Tamron and see if their latest firmware works, and send it in if it does.

These 600/6.3 lenses are unique in that they provide a large pupil at 600mm that no Canon zoom other than the 200-400/4 can provide; it is almost as big as the pupil of the 400/4 and 300/2.8 primes.

Well, it's happened to me. I don't remember the particulars any more, though, but it was not good. It is just really hard to keep track of every gadget that we need for our photography.

Ah thanks for the info, this is disappointing.

I tried contacting TAMRON a while back but got nothing back from them.

Checking the order date for my 150-600 it is 19/07/2014, I have never sent it for a firmware update so I guess it is an earlier firmware, I assume that will not help much.

Yes I use a check list in and out for all the odds and sods.

My son is a commercial airline pilot and his motto is "the check list is king". One of the few sensible things he comes out with.

Has anyone actually tested servo and tested the cameras ability to lock on moving objects when NOT USING the auto eye focus feature ??

Im wondering how it compares to a 7D2 or a 90D when not using auto eye focus capabilities ??
