Hebridean Princess. River Thames. UK.

It was a stormy and unsettled evening when Hebredean Princess, heading East, Passed Gravesend outward bound.
The sun was sinking slowly in the West behind the subject and the river was as calm as a mill-pond and as reflective as a mirror.
She was originally one of the ferries serving the Scottish islands. Now a cruise ship.

Hebridean Princess. River Thames. UK.

I left this pic off of the first in this series - It is a pano of two images because I had the 100-400 on the camera and it wasn't wide enough, so I took two pics and stitched them in PS CS6. This method does offer advantages providing the stitching goes ok - there are times when it can go wrong, so examine the resultant picture when done.

In January, the bulk cement carrier Goliath rammed and sank two tugboats in Devonport, Tasmania
They have remained on the river bottom since then. Yesterday a lifting barge arrived with the cradles to hold the tugs once out of the water. (I think I have that right)
A lifting ship is on its way.
I happened to be sitting on shore when I saw it out at sea and tug head off towards it.
Fascinating to watch as the tug towed the barge up into the river

HMS Cavalier.
Keel laid in 1942, and launched in 1944, HMS Cavalier was one of the 96 War Emergency Destroyers launched to make up some of the losses suffered by this type of ship in the early war years. She served for 28 years and was 'payed off' in 1972 at the Royal Navy Historic Dockyard at Chatham Kent UK where she is now a monument to the 11,000 lives and 142 Royal Navy Destroyers lost during the Second World War. The second Image is of the Bronze memorial sculpture that sits alongside 'Cavalier'

Images taken today 3rd August 2022 at Chatham.
