An Arctic tern (Sterna Paradisaea).
The cap is so deep black, that the eye becomes almost invisible in the picture.
I really like these elegant birds.

We have the common tern here. Very attractive birds and great fishermen. There used to be a large breeding colony where I often shoot birds but the last 4 or 5 years I hardly see any.

From way back, taken with my beloved 1DIIn.

And they would hover and dive right in front of me.

Great find - out of interest, are the nests high in the trees or low down? I think I know the trees the woodpeckers near me hang out in.

One of the holes was about 3 metres up and the other about 5 metres up but I have seen them 10 or 15 metres up. Both the trees I found this year have been used multiple times in the past, multiple holes up and down, so I'll know where to look next year!

Well captured. He’s eyeing you up in the last one. :)

Thanks Fin, I was stood just under one of the nest sites so they were probably looking there. cheers! :)

Common kingfisher female

Weja

This is such a beautiful image. I love the green background against the colours of the Kingfisher’s plumage.

We have these birds in our cities too. They breed on top of high buildings. Plenty of food for them in the city with all those pigeons. To have one come down to your garden is amazing though.

This is what I found coming home last Februari, even stayed when I went outside with my camera but hid behind the mispel(medlar) tree.

Sweet shots, Paul and Chris.

Is there anything more adorable than baby birds? Well, puppies too. And kittens. Hmmm, all babies then? :p
