Thank you very much greyswan! :) 20fps does help in some situations to catch the precise moment.

This week i'm shooting pro horsejumping and dressage. Today i tested shooting with both my RF100-500 as you see in the first photo and also with my ancient but still working Canon EF 400/2.8L USM. :)

There is a difference, but not a huge one between the two.

You caught the perfect moment in those jumps - I would imagine easier to do with the r5 as well. Love dressage, I miss my horses. RF 100-500 is my next lens I think...

Thank you very much! i appreciate it :-)

Since this is a daylight event it's easy with both cameras, the R5 with it's animal focus helps a bit but the 1DX still does a great job at capturing the horse action. Even the ten year old 1DX classic with my 31 year old Canon 400/2.8 lens performs very well. I think that's pretty impressive such a old setup still gets the job done.

Dressage is challenging to shoot and to get creative photos of, it's not that most action filled of horse sports. New angles, panning with slower shutter speeds and shooting through other objects to get the shot is something you have to do to get more interesting shots of it. I like to shoot it from a higher angle and down, if possible to get a isometric type perspective on the riders.

I was out early one morning this week to try some low light shots. I saw this bat before sun-up at tree top level darting around after insects before the sun topped the horizon. Just for giggles I switched to my C3 that I had set up for BIF.
I was amazed how sticky that blue square was.
BIF can also stand for Bats In Flight.;-)a Major crops with NR by Topaz. Maybe a bit too much.
