Every week we select a new theme, and then go out and shoot that theme. This week the theme is Statues. As always be as imaginative/creative as you like when interpreting the theme, creativity is what we're looking for.

Show us a Statue or two

Here are the rules:
1. Because this activity is supposed to encourage us to get out and shoot, please don't post old shots from your archives.

2. Shots need to be taken between Tuesday, after the new theme is posted and the following Monday by sunset (Whenever that is for you).
3. Snapshots and art are equally welcome -- just get out & shoot, and then share!
4. Post your shots at any time during the week.
5. Post a maximum of two shots if you're uploading them to POTN (i.e., attaching them). You can post more than two if you're linking to shots that are not hosted by POTN (i.e. embedding them) but keep within POTN rules. Also keep within POTN rules about size. A copy of the size rules can be found here: IMAGE POSTING RULES
That's it! Have fun! As always be as imaginative/creative as you like when interpreting the theme, creativity is what we're looking for.
An index to previous weeks can be found here: POTN WORLDWIDE PHOTO WEEK INDEX

That's it!
Have fun!

A small statue in a tiny park, near the centre of the city. Was driving by today and stopped for a few snaps. It was placed there to commemorate long-standing schools in the area that were replaced by larger, amalgamated suburban institutions. It depicts a schoolgirl (life-sized, age 10?) in a traditional school uniform with tunic, sash, crest, blouse and tie - very much British-influenced. She appears to be counting on her fingers (pre-calculator times!), or perhaps remembering her Latin declentions. The concrete surround is styled like an open book. Sculptor - Luben Boykov.

"Boy Walking" is a 5.2m (17' ) statue/artwork by artist Ronnie van Hout appeared in our local park in 2019 and cost the ratepayers NZ$550,000 apparently. I'm guessing the lighting cost extra.

personally I'd rather see "workmen filling potholes in the road" for that money but that's just me! ;-)a

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

You could have hired a real live boy to walk for less money than that. Too bad about those child-labor laws, huh?

Well, I have some really unusual statues here, but no time to go and photograph.
I'm headed to Seattle for the month and packing and getting pets ready and doing all the things I put off until the last minute!
Maybe, just maybe, I can find a statue in Seattle LoLz... :p

Not exactly a statue, but serving much the same purpose: a monument to the first trans-Atlantic air flight, which took off from St. John's in 1919. The pilots were two British WWI vets. Prize for being the first was £10,000, about $700,000 US today.
(They do have a statue at the other end of the trip, in Ireland - it was at Heathrow airport till 2019; would be nice to have one on top of this, too.)

As they used to say in show business, that's a hard act to follow.

One more from our weekend trip to NYC. The fearless girl. I was a bit sad to see that it was moved from its original location where she was staring down the Wall Street Bull. Guess that was a bit too much to take for certain sections of our society.
