Hi Charles,

The Castle Hill lighthouse is short and stocky but not quite as short as the photo above seems to indicate. Here is a photo of it from a different angle.

The one I talked about 3 posts up (4 with my post) , why was that one built so low? Any guesses??

Charles I can only guess these are not just a warning light but a navigational aid and it appears from latest photo to be in an estuary so probably doubles up in use. Like harbour lights as I know them here.

This one sits on one side of the entrance to the Narragansett Bay. Beavertail lighthouse sits in the middle on
Jamestown island. Pt Judith lighthouse in Narragansett sits on the other end. I think you are right about the multiple uses for these lights and a couple of others along the Bay.

CC always welcome.

Thank you! But it does seem if it was higher it could be seen farther away as talked about above better.

It IS a nice looking lighthouse though!

Decommissioned lighthouse built using the same methods as a Welsh windmill.

Not actually a lighthouse but a navigation marker tower.

Cape Otway Lighthouse, Victoria, Australia from a visit in 2019

lovely photo of our oldest mainland lighthouse. Beautiful sky, clouds

Cape Otway Lighthouse is the oldest surviving lighthouse on mainland Australia.

Built in 1848, the lighthouse known as the ‘Beacon of Hope,’ sits 90 metres above the pristine ocean of Bass Strait.

For many thousands of 19th century migrants, who spent months travelling to Australia by ship, Cape Otway was their first sight of land after leaving Europe, Asia and North America.

some interesting tales of early life there (external link) including the origins of the lighthouse
