On a second camera?

I wish that the RAWs for this trip had been available for this thread, they are impressive: I Captured Norway With My Infrared-Converted Camera (23 Pics) (external link)

I was not very impressed with this image set either but they were the only RAW set I could find

This interpretation by Mark made me sit up and take notice though! It's off the wall :-)

So, over to you Mark for the next challenge!

Thanks Martin. I'll get something up soon.

Before and After - The Weekly Editing Challenge
...now compiled into a single, easy to locate thread, that can be added to your subscribe/follow list!

Rules are simple:

  • Download the image file from the current week

  • Contestants will have 7 days to edit the image and post their edited version to the thread (as many entries as you like)

  • The owner of the original image will choose a winner

  • The winner will copy & paste this post and include a new downloadable image link

  • The new image must be unedited / SOOC (straight our of camera), full-resolution, and in a RAW format, ie. CR2, DNG, TIF, etc

  • (Dropbox works well for uploading and linking these large files)

The purpose of this game is to be creative and learn new editing techniques. You must give some insight into exactly how you went about editing the image. For example, increased shadows sliders, reduced highlights, local sharpening, white balance adjustment, specific filters used, tone curve adjustments, etc. Comments and/or questions regarding the edits are encouraged.

HERE'S (external link) this week's challenge.

Really enjoyed these images. I am amazed how much impact proper lighting has on a portrait. I think it's one of things you have to experience to really appreciate. DxO truly shines with a well-lit portrait.

1) DXO Fuji Astia with some texturing in On1, plus a touch of glow.

2) DxO Fuji Classic Neg with portrait feature in On1. I loved the red and green from Classic Neg.

This portrait appeal;s to me (not so the other one), so I have been trying to replace the monochrome back ground with very mixed, and all imperfect results

My workflow for all was: PL5 > remove background by various methos > replace tranparent background with Luminar AI

The one was the worst, Just look at the hair around the back of her neck. The Leawo PhotoIns trial has now been uninstalled from my PC!

IMAGE: https://i.postimg.cc/Xq7zn56J/Leawo-Photo-Ins.jpg

There ar a lot online background removers. I think Inpixo was one of the better ones
IMAGE: https://i.postimg.cc/zfv36zB1/Inpixio.jpg

The Adobe online background remover was a disappointment. Registration was clunky and too ages. The result was a large transparent canvas with a small image in the centre.

My best result was to use the Inpixio output wiyj an image that matched the darkness at the back of the model;'s neck

Can anyone do a better job?

Martin

Not competing, just practicing. Nothing special here, just a general cleanup. I wasn't really inspired by this photo, but hey, it's practice.

Nice work artist formerly known as Peano. Passwords are a nightmare... I have 272 in PWSafe and probably a few more on the phone. If I lose that and the backup service fails, my digital life is over.

QUOTED IMAGE

I don't think it's impossible, but I just don't have the patience for that level of detail work, and the masks are also a touch over-sharp for my taste. There's a way to soften the edges but that seems like too much work. That's why I picked a texture background on my version (above), to help hide flaws.

I think what you did really, really well is match the color tones, even after color replacements. I gave up on it and went with black and white. Also, probably helps to knock the background layer out of focus to help hide the masking flaws.

Here's my retake with some basic masking and blending in On1. And DxO Filmpack to complete the look.

Thank you. I now keep all my passwords in LastPass. Of course, if that were to implode . . .

So do I. It was one of the first password managers but I read somewhere that is not the best one. However, the thought of changing it fills me with horror!

Can we run this one another week? I'm still reading up on How To Process IR images. Thanks.

There is a thread on the mu43 forum here (external link) which might appeal to you even though it is not a very inspiring shot. Sign up and have a go!
