Château de Balleroy in Normandy was finished in 1635. Prince Charles and Elizabeth Taylor have both stayed at the Château but not at the same time.

Westfield near Westbury Tasmania, finished in 1848
If it looks very English it is because it was built by an Englishman fresh from his old home

A bit of history
Home of the Field dynasty, a legendary family of early 'cattle kings' descended from William Field (convict)
William Field (1774–1837) was a Tasmanian pastoralist, meat contractor and publican. Born in Enfield, near London, he spent his early working life as a farmer and butcher. At the age of 26 he was convicted of receiving stolen sheep from his brother, Richard, and transported to Van Diemen’s Land in 1806
By the time his 14-year sentence had been completed Field had already proven himself useful to the new colony as a farmer and merchant.

After Field expanded his meat contracting business colony wide, he continued to purchase property and at one point owned over one-third of the land and buildings in Launceston. By the time of his death he owned over 16,000 acres (65 km2) of land and had amassed a fortune which, adjusted in percentage terms of GDP, ranks him as the seventh richest Australian, and richest Tasmanian ever to have lived

This was typical of many felons sent to Tasmania under the penal code

Beautiful photo Richard, and a very interesting account of William Field. It's amazing how he was able to amass such fortune in his lifetime.

Thanks Mike
I hope to get a photo in good weather as there's a very beautiful mountain hidden in those clouds.
It's interesting that Field's cattle dynasty would have been the first white people to site the future Sheffield which then was called Kentish Plains. They took up 3000 acres covering all of now Sheffield.
They certainly were influential and a book was written about them Cattle King of Van Diemen's Land. Tasmania was originally called Van Diemens Land

This is the old Peobody Estate Mansion in Oakbrook, Illinois, in infrared. Cloudy day so I couldn't get the dark skies that infrared is known for, but at least the clouds were moody. Need enough chimneys? There's plenty more there since this view is only 1/8th of the building and is the less impressive back side. Lets also add some unneccessary columns and giant gargoyles to add some flair to the old English style architecture. This "house" also boasts a private "chapel" wing that is larger than many normal church buildings. Live well. Live large.

In fact, these buildings are only about 30 years old - a western town called Halter Valley was built near Pilsen.

Very interesting pictures!! I just Googled Halter Valley and found that this town is indeed in the Czech Republic!!

It "looks like" it could have been in the old west of the USA!!

Unfortunately, the builder's business plan didn't work out too well - originally various cowboy games and similar animation programs were organized here, but the interest in them gradually decreased, and eventually the owner unsuccessfully tried to sell the premises. Nowadays, horses of private owners from the surrounding area are mainly stabled here and rodeos are organized several times a year, the area can also be rented for various private or corporate parties.

I am sorry to hear it did not work out better for them.

That's a lovely photo Lester of interesting old buildings .
I looked that area up and see the old cannon used to summon lifeboat crew.
Fascinating

Hoveton Hall Estate in Norfolk, England. I assume this was originally the head gardeners cottage though it doesn't say on their web-site.
