What is this purple flower?
A hydrangea, I think. Common in the UK but this one seems to be of a slightly different variety.

My guess is that it's a Hydrangea Aspera of the 'Mauvette' variety. Garry Knight

Aug 10, 2022 13:19 | #15173 It was actually the results of a few minutes internet research. I've known for decades that it's a hydrangea, and that it's unusual for having sparsely distributed florets. A Google image search for 'hydrangea' and a fairly keen eye turned up the Mauvette variety very quickly, and the 'mauve' bit resonated as I've always had a fascination with slightly unusual colour like mauve, taupe, cerise, and the like. I seem to recall seeing a lot of these in English seaside towns, while the ones in cities tend to be either blue or pink, depending on the acidity of the soil, I think, and are totally covered in florets.
