A bit of history nicely recorded.

I don't know anything. But I know other things.

Hello Inspeqtor,
Depending where in Italy I was going to and then travelling to where I was reloading for home, each week I would clock up about 1,900 miles. Not large distances compared to the USA I know. We were restricted to 9 hours of driving per day with overnight rest of at least 9 hours all logged on an electronic recorder called a Tachograph. The speed limit on most roads was only 50mph as well. Woe betide if the French police stopped you and found you had exceeded those hours of driving or had not recorded enough rest time during the journey, the Italian police were just as bad but could be bribed with cigarettes or a cheap bottle of whisky of which we always kept some of in the cab for such purposes! :)

I left on a Tuesday morning and got home the following Sunday afternoon. but sometime got as far as the french ferry port of Calais and swopped trailers before setting off back to Italy again. Just a bit of trivia, but an old mate and I sat talking the other week and knowing our yearly mileage from 46 years of commercial truck driving, we reckon we have clocked up about 4 million miles, and thats without 46 years of cars, motorbikes ect! Thanks for the interest :)

Lol - yeah I hike in jeans, so... I might have to change things up for next season to something that's even slightly water resistant!! Funny how you "think you know" and the weather gods remind you of who's boss!!! I was certainly humbled!!!!

Thank you for filling in my curiosity!! 1900 miles is still a LOT of traveling!! 4 million miles is a bit bigger drive! HaHaHa!!

The Garden Route

Part of the highway between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth in South Africa is called "The Garden Route". This probably explains why.
