Tip to everyone.

Position your camera to be nearest to or on the ground/grass/soil/floo​r as possible so the background of the bird being photographed would not be water/ground/grass/soi​l/floor that is inches away from them.

This will require the photog to be squatting (external link) or in a prone position (external link) like a sniper

If you have a tripod with shorten legs or spread out legs and an articulating LiveView screen. With this setup you can be sitting and looking down on the LCD.
