You caught me  I live about 20-30 minutes from a lot of the recreation areas so I bought the America The Beautiful pass which gets me free parking and access for a whole year. There have been a ton of monsoons lately so I haven't been able to go as much as I like but I am happy to have full access.

I've only seen the horses a few times, but they were fairly far and I was using a 35mm or 50mm lens so no photos.

This is Mt Egmont here in New Zealand that I took last week. The locals call it Mt Taranaki.

In an attempt to protect the integrity and well-being of Mount Taranaki, a dormant volcano within the Egmont National Park on North Island in New Zealand, the mountain has been granted “legal personality” status, meaning the volcano will have “all the rights, powers, duties, and liabilities of a legal person.”

Here is the cultural legend ......

Once upon a time, seven gods in the form of volcanoes lived around Lake Taupo. Tongariro, Ngauruhoe, Ruapehu, Putauaki, Tauhara and Taranaki all fought for the love of the beautiful Pihanga.

Tongariro won and stands next to Pihanga today. Five of the losing mountains retreated peacefully away to the south, the north and the east, where they remain.

But one of them, the furious Taranaki, stormed off to the west, gouging a trench across the land as he went that filled with his tears, becoming Te Awa Tupua, Whanganui River.

Taranaki stopped when he reached the Pouakai Ranges, close enough to see Pihanga, but far away enough to placate Tongariro. They say that during particularly stunning sunsets, Taranaki is displaying himself to Pihanga. And when Tongariro erupts, he is warning Taranaki to stay away.

So far, he has.

Where are your pictures of the Hobbits?!?!?!?! ;-)a :p ;-)a :p

Sorry but there's a law here that states any photos or video of hobbits must be handed over to Peter Jackson immediately.
You know, so he can do more documentaries!

Thanks - it's a pity the photos don't really do it justice.
One can but try though!

He did the Lord of the Rings movies - which were largely filmed in NZ. Those movies were about hobbits (and other things)
Peter Jackson was born in NZ.
I hope that clears it up for you :-)
