Mine is the same - not matter how many times I try to calibrate it, it just never seems to be even vaguely close to reality. I too may try reinstalling and learning how to use it would be helpful too :)

Photographers Ephemeris is also another good one, works very similar.

Down here in Auckland we have the Sky Tower and we are always looking for the full moon rising up right behind it. The tutorial on youtube for Photopills shows this really well and is a good explanation of how it works. I have to pretty much watch it everytime I want to shoot though lol. Luckily for me, in the tutorial, the shooting spot he chooses is only a few streets from my house :)

Yeah I've been using their free desktop version...

I'm betting apple did an "update" and it perhaps interfered with pills. Pills worked perfectly until recently...

I never used the histogram so that would help, thank you!

If you use the same camera and lens as your examples you posted on the previous page, I would suggest using the same camera settings you did before, except the ISO will need to be 3200 or more probably 6400 at your f/3.5 aperture. Also, be in as dark of skies as possible, even if you have to drive a couple of hours to find them. Even if your RAW file comes out what seems to be overexposed, you will likely be able to recover it in Lightroom. Once you get a few decent photos, watch several video tutorials on Youtube regarding how to best edit Milky Way photos. That's how I learned.

edit/add: If the noise at ISO 6400 (or whatever) is too ugly for your liking, you can download the free Sequator software and learn to use that for stacking multiple files, which will reduce the noise in your final photo significantly.

Thank you . This is a bit better - here I used a program I found called Sequator to stack 5 single 30 second exposures.

Used a higher iso and got these better looking pictures. The last one I used a purple light to get that effect which was pretty cool IMO
