I know the OP was talking about a RF600 f11 however for what its worth I have been known to shoot birds in flight at f8 and sometimes as narrow as f11 if I have good light with my RF 600 f4 . THE narrower aperture wider DOF certainly helps get a bird in flight in focus especially if the af focus lock hits the tip of a fully extended wing by mistake . Especially on large birds with huge wing spans like Cranes and Black necked storks etc. For me the magic of the rf600 F4 prime is more in its overall optical quality, quick AF and sharpness . Yes f4 is great in lower light or when you want good bokeh on closer backgrounds but narrower apertures are still usefull on the RF600 f4 when the bigger birds start flying by
Cheers
Great shot BTW!
