Looks like the R3 IQ holds up pretty well to heavy cropping.

Yes - here's the full frame (raw - unprocessed) resampled down to 1600x1067 pix - I only just managed to get the jet in view, and pardon the leaning tower... If would be interesting to see results from the R3 and 100-500 + RF 1.4x I think that from my vantage point at river level, it would be quite challenging to pick up the jets at 500mm, as their flight path takes them from flying towards you where you can (relatively) easily frame them, to blasting over the top where I lose them in the VF and then I have to scramble to pick up the jet after swinging round 180 degrees, avoiding various bits of structures and cranes that can get in the way.

If you shoot from the Kangaroo Cliffs vantage point, the jets are flying more or less level, in straight flight, from left to right, which should make it easier to acquire them and track them at longer focal lengths. Might give that a try next year. ![]() Cheers Dennis I use a handheld Sigma 150-600 Sport for airshows and of course - framing can be very difficult. What I really like is the 'push' 'pull' of the zoom so I can quickly adjust on the 'fly' Constructive Critiques Appreciated!

That's what I love about my old Canon 100-400, and one of the reasons I've resisted upgrading to the newer version of the lens. The Moose is Loose!
