What is that tan structure on the left in the middle image? It looks like tan masonry with "dents", but the "dents" replicate periodically down the image.

I believe it's one of the towers for Prince Waikiki Honolulu Luxury Hotel.

One of my favourite helicopters to shoot, the Sikorsky UH-60 Blackhawk in action at a airshow. :-)

Nice pic, but I must say I have given up on the SA control on the RF 100. For me, it softens the main image.

Thanks. :-)
Yeah the SA Control does soften the image. Personally i don't see an issue here, i acutally like the softness. For me a picture comes alive with forms, color, mood.. pure sharpness isn't a main factor for me. I took the same image without the SA Control and didn't like it..
Imagine a picture with smoothened (or edgy) background with a tack sharp focal plane. It would look pretty strange and "photoshopped".
You can sharpen the main subject in post processing more and add more contrast, etc..

I also love to use vintage lenses, maybe that's why i don't care as much about sharpness. :)

John Sheehy wrote in post #19423015 (external link)
Yes, it can throw some smooth or edgy bokeh behind or in front of focus, but it has a very high penalty in the focal plane, if you wanted it sharp and with contrast. I haven't experimented to see how correctable it may be, but it looks like it would not respond well to a single global contrast correction for the image, and may require something adaptive.

You have to correct it selectively. But as mentioned above.. it can look strange pretty fast :)

I also had difficulties with the SA control. Tried it out for a bit but just got soft/uninteresting images. At one time, I hit it accidentally (unlocked the switch by mistake and turned the dial). Couldn't figure out what was wrong and went to another lens for the event I was shooting.

I like this image, and it opens my eyes to artistic/creative possibilities. Maybe I'll give it a go sometime.

I have been testing a series of legacy EF lenses with my Canon R5 and R6 bodies. I actually prefer the EF 70-200 MkII (f/2/8 and f/4 iS USM) lenses over the RF ones, because they don't extend, which reduces the risk of dust entering the box and settling on the sensor.

I was really impressed that the eye focus nailed the tiny amount of eye showing from this flamingo, trying to sleep but keep an eye on things at the same time

This much-cropped image of a dragon lizard, taken through glass at the local zoo shows that the class this lens still shines

You and DB have given me food for thought. I'll give it another try maybe. I gave up on it when I did the same as you and unlocked it by mistake. Took me a while to fathom it out.
