This time last year at McMinns Lagoon I saw a bird I didn't recognise, but which turned out to be a White-browed Crake. I haven't seen one since, until this afternoon in almost the exact same place. They love hiding in the reeds so are really hard to get a shot of (or even to see). But I surprised this one (and myself!) and had about half a second to get a shot before it realised I was pointing this big ugly thing at it and flew off to another reed bed too far away.

That’s a nice catch, Pippan. Your description and how it looks made me think of our water rails, also skittish and always hiding in the reeds, so I looked him up and sure enough, they’re in the same family. Coots and moorhens are in it too.

I have not been on here for a while. Just been going through all the pics and there are many great photos I have missed.
Recently I took some snaps of a Tawny Frogmouth on nest but there were so many oof branches and a blown out sky so spent a while in Photoshop to create this image. " Howling at the moon "

I prefer to be in the bush with the animals than a crowded city.
