All shots edited in PL5 and finished in LP(except the cat, PL5 only).

Not happy with the motion of the boat in HDR so this is the single -2 EV exposure.

Sorry Martin but I don't have LR either, I did try in Nik's HDR FX 2 which also has a 100% Deghosting setting. It looked better but still not so great. TBH DxO PL5 is so good at recovering shadows that I very often find that I don't need HDR software at all. I just edit the lowest exposure file and bring up the shadows. Quite frequently this procedure produces better results than various HDR software can produce.

Not competing ... just basic edits. I like the feel of this image.

Following Mark's comments about using a single file from a bracketed set of 3, here are some tonemapped images using HDR software for him to digest.

I used the default settings in all the apps, selected auto alignment and auto-deghosting if available. Apart from resizimng, there has been no post processing

1. Aurora-HDR 2019. (BTW, the 2018 version is still available and is FREE)

IMAGE: https://i.postimg.cc/kGVfwJWt/Aurora-Better-Skies.jpg

2. EasyHDR FREE
IMAGE: https://i.postimg.cc/Dy6Ps49Y/Easy-HDR-moving-boat.jpg

3. Lightroom mwrge to HDR. A friend came to mu home with his laptop for this one and I watched over his shoulder while he processed the bracketed set. It confirmed that I just don;t want to have anything to do with LR but have to admit that when you get to the Merge process it is very easy and produces an excellent result.
IMAGE: https://i.postimg.cc/sgcHjD95/LR-HDR-Merge.jpg

4. Picturenaut 3. Anothr FREE app. It has a very old fasjioned interface but is easy to use and generates a result very quickly. Strangely, it saves a 24bit TIF.
IMAGE: https://i.postimg.cc/c13rVK0k/Picturenaut.jpg

5. An obsolescent copy of Photomatix
IMAGE: https://imgpile.com/images/Tmqnyh.jpg

6. SNS-HDR, my go-to app for a natural result
IMAGE: https://imgpile.com/images/Tmq7pR.jpg

As far as ease of processing and minimal PP are concerned, my favourites are Aurora, Lightroom and Picturenaut 3 FREE. BTW, can anyone detect any ghosting?

Yes Martin I'm seeing ghosting in the name on the bow of the ship on all but the Aurora and SNS versions.

Thanks for using your sharp eyes. Maybe I'll post the faulty ones with high'strong deghosting.

My eyes used to be sharp but now I rely on thick reading glasses to be able to see anything close to me. Anyway I'm also seeing some elongation of the boat in all but Aurora and SNS versions. IMO Aurora did the best job with SNS coming in second.

Thanks for that comparison Martin. Aurora really takes it for alignment. And speaking of Luminar products, received this message when I opened Neo this AM for the first time in a few days. Finally clone! Will try out and post here. (Also an HDR merge option, billed as a successor to Aurora.)

Yes, I knew about Neo 1.4 and plugins - but I am still using AI as it does most of what I need

In NEO - simple cloning to try it: removed ships and St Isaac's Cathedral (+ Russian flag). Then some tone adjustments, straightening, and donated a new sky. Wee bit of sharpening in Topaz. Clone works nicely - fast

Nice job, Rob :-)

I'm not surprised that a Skylum clone tool removes a Russian flag fast!

P.S. I hoper you do not live close to the shore; BBC News indicated that there is a big storm heading your way soon

Thanks.

That's what I figured!

We are keeping a close eye on the hurricane's eye, but the prediction tonight is that Fiona will make landfall to the west of us here (in St. John's), i.e., hitting Nova Scotia and the western part of the island of Newfoundland. But it is a big, bad one, so we will no doubt feel some wind and storm surge.
