which roadrunner is it?

Thanks for your interest!

I'm sorry- I don't know. It was in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park in southern California, if that helps.
Wikipedia ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roadrunner (external link) ) only lists two species. Given where I took the picture, I'd guess greater roadrunner (Geococcyx californianus), although I'm far from being an expert at bird identification.

It was fun to watch it run around and flicking its tail up. It has some iridescent feathers, too.

The Flasher

A rainbow lorikeet giving us an underbelly view.

If you're wondering about the high ISO, I ran the ORF file through DxO PureRAW to take care of the noise, before importing the resulting DNG file into Capture One Pro for highlight and shadow recovery.

Hi Jack...Nice capture of this elusive bird. I would expect that this is a Greater Roadrunner vs. a Lesser Roadrunner. The latter species tend to be found more in the Mexico to Central America areas. Whereas, the Greater Roadrunner is more likely to be found in Southern California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.

Pippan I didn't say before how much I liked that photo.
It's very clear and shows the Kingfisher off beautifully.
Lovely photo. Make an excellent illustrative example in a book.

Thanks Richard, the bird did pose nicely for me.

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

Great image ra40.

Your image's composition and background reminds me of this year's GOLD AWARD WINNER AND BIRD PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR. (external link)

This is weird... forum did not save my additional comments.

So I will rewrite it, again.

The similarities are as follows

- interesting white bird as the subject

- interesting background mountain range vs your interesting background of rain fall

- interesting left mountain vs on the left your interesting clear skies.

- while we see textures on the foreground of snowy rocks yours is much more drama with waves crashing onto the rocks

Non native birds to Singapore. They're seed eaters.

It’s funny here in Florida it’s about the opposite. The blue wings are the most common of the three so green wings second and cinnamon’s are tough to find. I have seen two in the last few years. (typo corrected)

Great shot!

Yup...that is interesting Ed. We tend to take the cinnamons and green-winged teal for granted, because they are quite commonly seen. A blue-winged teal is definitely not seen very often.
