It took some hella work to pull color out of this image (maybe 7 layers with tweak after tweak), but seems to have come out Ok-ish.

Any idea why the pink fades at the edges but is so strong in the center of the image? Is it my lens combo or the way of things?

Your lens might be exhibiting an IR hotspot? Not all lenses are suited for IR. There are lists on the net with lenses listed that don't perform well in IR.

This could be part of the problem. Fuji lenses are pretty notoriously bad for IR. I almost exclusively use manual lenses when I shoot IR.

Interesting. I just began experimenting with IR last month testing 3 lenses, and my hot spot issue was with a 2 of lenses having that intense white center when stopped down too much. I hadn't experienced nor considered color fall off along the edges.

BTW, I can affirm that the Fuji 50mm f/1.0 performs well, while the 16-55mm has correctable hot spots and the 10-24mm is virtually unusable.

GlimmerMan, do you mind identifying the lens?

It's the X100T with the WCL, the wide angle converter. I looked for X100T lens issues ahead of time, didn't find much, took a chance that it'll work out just fine because the service is offered by a few Modifier Services, and I also checked with a bloke on Flickr that said 'no issues'. It's not bad problem IMO, but I think David and Lucas are right that it's a hot spot thing.

Could be caused because I spot meter in the center, hence the hot spot is more balanced and the edges fall off because they are not metered (?).

I read-up on how to do a test myself. Also going to try it without the WCL. Not an issue for B&W, but for color I completely lose the edges.

Thanks gents. There is an endless pit of things to learn.

All but two of my nine or so lenses are useless for IR, including all my Canon L-lenses. Quality doesn't seem to make a difference. LifePixel used to have a database of good vs. bad. Don't know if they still have that resource up.

Yeah, I think the only "good" Fuji lens I own for VR is the 35/1.4, and it's only good up to f5.6.

Some of my best lenses for VR are very mediocre lenses for visible light. It's really a fascinating thing how light spectrum works.

Still rocking the a6000 for now. Sold my a6500 as I have found I just don't care for shooting infrared with Sony a6xxx cameras. Hopefully, I'll have my Fuji X-T3 back from full spectrum conversion in a couple of weeks.

A couple images with the Zomei 850nm filter.
