Thank you kindly Charles, it was shot straight from my d7200 without calibrating it - I know all lens/body set ups need a bit of calibration for front/back focus with long lenses.

P.

I have heard that as well. Has anyone here done lens calibration? And if so what did you use? I saw a pro on YouTube recommending FoCal.

I haven't had much luck with manual focus using live view so far. Nit sure if it's a matter of practice or if you just have to have a knack, or maybe eye, for it. Would help if you could focus while magnifying the screen, but tough when you have to keep bouncing back and forth.

Oh, yeah I also do digital magnification on the surface of the moon,

It would help to switch the lens to MF so when I press the shuter it does not AF.

I use a very heavy duty tripod and avoid direct exposure to draft/wind as it will shake the camera.

I also use a remote shutter or timed shutter.

I also activate mirror lockup to avoid shutter shock

I've observed that taking a photo of the moo after a typhoon or heavy storm will clean up the air above you of most of the pollutants.

If I was obsessive-compulsive I'd travel by air to the highest point I have access to to reduce further atmospheric distortion.

Like say to a peak that is 3km or higher?

Amazing photos! How hard was that to focus and use the extra 2x??

With a nearly FULL moon it was not hard at all. You got to remember adding another tele-extender that requires more light, your f-stop will change to a lager number.

Also if I remember correctly you bought a Sigma extender. You can NOT buy another Sigma extender and put together. I have a Sigma 1.4 and a Sigma 2.0 extender. They will NOT attach to each other. My Kenko 2.0 will attach to my Sigma 2.0

Great question.

I normally do manual focus via LiveView or tethered to a computer's display.

I should add here, I was able to AUTO-focus with my 2 extenders connected to each other.

Also I ALWAYS use my Canon RS-60E3 Remote Switch when shooting the Moon so I am not touching the camera body at all with my camera attached to my tripod.

A few different ways from the scale target types to the dot focus test uisng the in focus confirmation in the viewfinder. I also can tell with mine from objects flying - planes/bif, I can generaly tell if the lens is front/back focusing from a range of shots taken to see if all the object is in sharp focus, it tends to work ok.

Why are you not able to do that anymore if you do not mind telling us??
