THe A6400 should be a good choice. I seriously considered renting an A6600 plus Sony 200-600 last year for testing against the Fuji, but once I started playing with the Fuji 2X extender coupled with the Canon 100-400 Mk2 I decided it wasn't worth it as any gains would most likely be marginal. The sensors are basically the same so it would come down to Sony's AF vs Fuji's AF and Sony's ergonomics vs Fuji's. I have no doubt that Sony's AF is better, but Fuji's AF was/is getting the job done and I have gotten used to the dedicated parameter setting dials, most of the time.

I looked at the A6600 instead of the A6400 for the larger grip and bigger battery. I had experienced a Sony A7R2 a few years ago and hated its grip and the tiny battery that was good for less than 100 shots, typically. Battery life is a general problem for the MILCs, but I can usually get 150 to 200 on the X-H1 using the long lenses, and more than 300 if you are using smaller lenses and less chimping.

FWIW I picked up the X-H1 when Fuji was having their fire sale, $1000 for that camera plus vertical grip and three batteries was a steal.

Yeah I hear you on the grip and battery sizes. I almost bought the a6600 for exactly those reasons. I tried out the a6400 in the shop with my Sigma 100-400 and felt the grip was enough that I would be comfortable using it for a day, further supported with a Peak Design Cutch hand strap. I am still a little concerned about the battery capacity, but I got three Wasabi spares plus the one that came with the camera so hopefully that will get me through a day.

100-400 on APS-C is plenty of reach for me at present, at least until I get better at following moving subjects. I go to a lot of air shows so my BIFs tend to be bigger than most of the others you see around here. There's a thread for the Sony 200-600 over in the Sony Lenses forum. Absolutely incredible images.

Another thing I like about the Sony α6x00 series is the "rangefinder" viewfinder position. It feels more natural when holding the camera and looking through it because my head can be pointed in the same direction as the camera. With DSLRs, I always felt my head had to be tilted or turned from where I was shooting, or my nose was mashed against the rear LCD.

(Apologies for hijacking this thread!)

Just posting one of my Sigma shots, it was with the R7 but that is not in the gear list and I am posing only to get it in the gallery to use in another post
