so the xh2, the 40mp one. tempting.

but... idk, thinking maybe sell everything(xt4 and lenses + sony a7r4 and 24-70) and get a gfx100s and an x100v

but the gfx lenses are so expensive. not saying they aren't worth it, just saying ..

i mean, what would it cost to get a kit together that rembles something like a ff kit of a 16-35 , 70-200 and a 50mm or 85mm equiv for portraits. add the camera and i suspect i'm approaching fifteen grand in gear.

Hmm. From what I have been seeing, resolution aside, the X-T4 is pretty comparable to the X-H2. Seems like a big expense and hassle for not a lot of return (unless 40 MP is worth it - then maybe the GFX cameras might be worth the change). My feelings about the X100V are biased, based on disappointing user experience and having to repair a failed rear panel, so I will not offer comment on that choice. The only comment I will make in that regard is that the Ricoh GRIII and GRIIIx are a lot more compact and offer incredible performance in a fixed lens, truly pocketable compact camera. The GR cameras are also leaf shutter, sync to flash at high speeds, and do not suffer from the X100V’s high shutter speed bokeh collapse issues when shooting wide open. I use my Godox Fujifilm radio trigger and flashes with the Ricohs and they work great (no TTL, but that is not an issue I worry about).

I used the GFX 50 for a year and half or so and found myself thinking it would be more useful to me than it actually was. The image quality and lens rendering are outstanding, but it is a physically large system. Even the newer GF cameras will not perform as well as the X-T4 in terms of AF, etc. And the file sizes are large, requiring more computing resources to process fluidly, if that is an issue for your workflow. I do not use video, so I have no comments in that regard.

Good luck with figuring it all out!

Kirk

Edit: here is a video that features the X-H2 with some comparisons to the X-T4 and the GFX100s

Bumped into Ross in the local cafe this morning, had a camera and flash with me so snapped a shot. Not really feeling this worked out like I wanted it to but that's why we try these things I guess.

Last month I was dog sitting in the middle of nowhere Texas. I thought I'd try a new self portrait, but the fur beasts had other ideas. The shoot lasted all of about 90 seconds. I like how you can make out the image in the phone app on the first shot.

This mornings work, a paw from an older dog that her owner is getting a tattoo of. Don't have a macro lens yet for the 100s but the 32-64 + 102Mp kinds makes up for it, it's 6000x6000px after cropping in.

Kea on Guard:

My favourite NZ bird, the world's only mountain parrot, (found in NZ's alpine region) - the Kea.
They mate for life, are as intelligent as a primate but tend to be like naughty children - they explore everything.... with beaks and claws.
They can open packs, cut up laces of hiking boots, undo screws and bolts, remove car windscreen wipers and rubber sealing, but they are hugely endearing.

I think it's time to retire (or fix) my 50-140... compared to the 90 the results are just night and day.
Basically same settings but you can see how f2 really allows more light in and keeps the ISO lower.

50-140 first, then 90 f2
