So sorry to have to add to the previous sadness.

Our Sydney had to have emergency surgery on Monday.
He seemed to be making a good recovery at the Vets but yesterday afternoon we got a call to say he had gone down hill rapidly with kidney failure.
We went straight over to be with him and say goodbye as he went peacefully over the rainbow bridge.
His passing will leave a large hole in our hearts.
Sleep well big fella...

This was the last 'proper' photo I took of him just over a month ago.

Hi Jeff...

A loss like this leaves a hole in the heart. One thing that may bring a degree of comfort is that I am sure Sydney had the very best home he could have wished for with you and your family.

I’m sad to hear about your Sydney. My Nelson is starting to show signs of age and I dread the day he will leave us.

Jeff,
My condolences to you.
One thing I have learned about all the cats I have with kidney failure and the advice I now offer, is to watch how much they drink. If it increases and they pee more often, they need the full blood work done to check on kidney function. It is so slow and you never notice how sick they are until it gets bad. After ~10-15 years they need a blood work checkup done.
I lost 2 of my kitten fosters last month, one very suddenly and one who was sick for awhile. They were solid black siblings both girls and I still have their brother and one from a separate litter. They were all named after peppers, since when I got them they were extremely "spicy" but tamed down to loving kittens.
I still have Habanero and Ghost. They were the "spiciest" of them all.

Very sage advice there.

In Sydney's case the Kidney failure was a result of complications from his surgery. He could have had further surgeries that may or may not have worked but I didn't want to put him through more.....or my credit card for that matter!

It was decided the kindest thing to do was to be with him whilst he was put to sleep peacefully and free from pain.

We are a multi cat household and have had cats all through our lives. It still never gets any easier saying goodbye, but knowing he had a loving home and a good life eases the pain of loss, as does the companionship from our other fur balls who are all receiving extra hugs and cuddles:-)

I was on my back porch photographing the birds when the neighbor's striking cat wandered into my yard.
Usually, he'll come up for some petting, but not today .... he was on a mission, and my birds evaporated !
