Swainson's Hawk - dark morph

That's a great catch, Mark. I've seen a lot of Swainson's Hawks in the areas I like to photograph, but very, very few of the dark morphs.

Pretty chuffed to get this shot even if it was in the shade. It's a Yellow-rumped Mannikin (external link), very scarce, at least in the Darwin region. This one was feeding with a flock of Chestnut-breasted Mannikins at Lee Point Dam late yesterday afternoon.

Well done!!! It’s quite difficult to spot it amongst all the Chestnut-berated ones :-)

Thanks Ulrike, I only noticed it through the viewfinder at 400mm.

Female Pink-necked green pigeon (Treron vernans) (external link) by Paolo Dolina (external link), on Flickr

Brightly-colored tree-dwelling pigeon. Adult male has a powder-pink neck, orange breast patch, gray-blue head, and yellow belly. Adult female is much plainer, is tea-green above and brighter yellow-green below. Both sexes have striking black-and-yellow wing feathers and yellow spotting on the undertail coverts. Adaptable, and can be found in mangroves, open coastal forests, parks, gardens, and plantation edges. Primarily a lowland species, but can on occasion be found in foothills. Social, often gathering in flocks; occasionally mixes with other green-pigeons. Unlike many other pigeons, not very vocal; occasionally gives strange, alien-sounding coos.
