Late-season yellow jacket on some flowers. It was cold (10°C) and it wasn't too frisky. R7 and RF100mm macro.

Focus is on the sensor so no MFA needed. Even with a proper MFA'd camera there is still very slight deviation of back/front focus because of the mirror assembly. Just the nature of that type of system and there isn't anything you can do. I hated MFA and I'll never miss it.

Agree 100% and good riddance! I've always thought of MFA as a cop-out by the camera manufacturers (not just Canon). With MFA, the manufacturers could skip the final precise adjustments in manufacturing, and they could use lighter and cheaper components that were more likely to shift over time. Most customers probably never looked at their images close enough to really notice it, and those who did (probably highly correlated with the folks who hang out in online photography equipment forums) were happy to do it themselves.

The MSRP hasn't changed, but Canon is having an "instant rebate" promotion right now.

There was also a Canon sale of some kind on the same lens a month or so ago, for $550. That's when I bought mine. Maybe they're seeing sales slow down due to the economy and want to compensate? Or maybe the supply chain is loosening up and they want people to know they have inventory?

Incredible, Ed! Another amazing insect image!

My preference for photographing something like that would be with a 1200mm lens and giving it about three pixels on the R7.

Once bitten twice shy? This wasp was pretty docile, never moved when I was there.

Thanks for the compliment. It's end of season here, have to find other quarry until the bugs come back in 7 months.

Heheh, I don't speak that kind of lingo. I'm used to crop frames, and 500mm is 500mm.

In Florida I'm pretty sure I wouldn't need the teleconverter, because birds are often close. But in most other places I would, I think. I was just tending the HD and the archives from Belize. The birds are all so far away, they are tiny in the crop frame.

But I don't know. Some say it's better to just crop.

I often if not usually crop that much!

I bought when it was only $50 off but I really like it, is it a 100-400Lii or 100-500 NO but it is much lighter and still takes good pictures

I like the high key seagulls, very arty.

LIVE VIEW NOT AUTO FOCUSING

When zoomed in 5X or 10X and I attempt to auto focus the live view zooms out to full view. I can not find the setting that corrects this. Thank you for any help.
