This is a Sulphur-crested Cockatoo taken at the Oxley Creek Common near Brisbane.

It is one of the largest of the several species of beautiful white cockatoos and is a highly intelligent bird.

Here we have a male Red-backed Fairy-wren and I think #2 is a female as she was in the vicinity.

The Red-backed Fairy-wren is the smallest of Australia’s fairy-wrens.

Apparently, the Red-backed-Fairy-wren is among the least faithful birds in the world, with extra-pair mating commonplace — the result is that the eggs in any given nest are often fathered by various different birds.

Purple heron

What a cool looking portrait shot of the purple heron, RAL! Excellent sharpness and detail. Gotta love that little insect buzzing around him. It could easily become a snack for the heron.

This is an especially sharp shot of the brown pelican. Very nicely captured, Kirk! It a shame to hear about the fishing line hanging off of him. I sure hope it isn't a death sentence.

Me neither! I know these waterfowl can be feisty, but I've never seen one this aggressive.

A male Superb Fairy-wren (in deep shade) and a male Red-backed Fairy-wren taken at the Oxley Creek Common wetlands this morning.

It always helps when they pose for the photographer on a fence post or branch.
